• fb_app id (1) does not equal fb settings id (NNN). This is usually caused by the wrong callback url on your facebook application settings form.
  • Drupal for Facebook is unable to override the theme settings. This is usually because some module causes theme_init() to be invoked before fb_init(). See the README.txt.

Drupal for Facebook needs a new name!

Dave Cohen's picture

I named this project "Drupal for Facebook" imagining an install profile or distribution of Drupal with all the extras needed to host a Facebook Application. While I like the name, it has two problems, namely the two trademarked terms "Drupal" and "Facebook".

The owner of the Drupal trademark (Dries) is reasonable. He understands that non-profit projects will use the term and generally Drupal is better off for it. The pit bulls in Facebook's legal department... let's just say they don't see things the same way. They are hassling me about the name. Rather than fight the power, I'm going to rename the project. But to what, I don't know.

So I'm putting this out there: what should the new name be? Send your ideas to me. I need a new domain and probably have to change the project's name on drupal.org, the facebook app, the twitter feed and everywhere else. Grumble...

First, is it really Facebook

First, is it really Facebook contacting you? I didn't see any contact information in the email you attached. Did you take it out? Also, have you looked at Facebook's Terms of Service to see what they say on how you can use the Facebook name?

Name suggestions:
fusebook
drupalbook (if you are allowed to use drupal)
social book interface (for a long and complicated one)
interbook
fbapiintegration

FB

FB is enough.

+ It is a Drupal module, so there is no need to repeat this in the name.
+ FB is short enough for the Module namespace

-> What ever 'description' you use is up to you, but is not the name ;-)

Best Thomas Zahreddin

And, frankly...

I DON'T like the name- it's confusing- it makes the module sound like it's an "official" module created by Drupal. Call it Grumble.

What the..

A name for a module doesn't need to be fancy- just name it SOMETHING. By the way, I connected to this site today using Facebook Connect- it's my first visit here- and after the login was processed, a total of NINE (9) errors greeted me. And this is just from the Facebook Connect function? Hmm..

Considering the new dev features that Facebook is unleashing soon (Application and Game Dashboards), I hope you get some good help for developing your modules. I haven't looked at the code- but considering that FB APIs can and do change- I would hope that your module uses a lot of object-oriented classes to run the show. This would make it easier to update/upgrade- and you may be able to write something that would be fairly extensible and able to shift with changing APIs more elegantly.

Good luck!

How about Drupal for Farcebook

Says it all... ;^)

FaceDroop or FaceDrop

would be good names.

Or maybe FaceDrup

FaceDrup sounds like Facebook

Ok - What about this...

I went through the sign-on process just because I think I have the perfect NEW NAME for the project (no ego here then - ha ha) - I suggest:

"DrupalFB"

OK, I've just thought of another one, maybe not as good but what about:

"Drupal-InterFACE"

Whatever name change you decide to go with, I wish the project well.

Since Drupal means drop, and

Since Drupal means drop, and facebook has names, I suggest you use the name Namedrop. It will build upon the already existing term name-dropping. It can also be viewed as it takes billions of drops to fill the ocean called facebook. Each drop is a face and a name of an individual. Thus namedrop borrows from both names -- facebook and Drupal -- and gains a bit of street cred by being associated with an action used to convey vicarious prestige. What do you think?

Messages

Hi,

I using Twitter module in sites jogos de meninas and jogos online for send messages in Twitter.

This module Drupal for Facebook, include this function for send short messages in Facebook perfil?

a few more

fbase, fbapp, fb_appmaker, fb_developer, fb_platform (I see you are toying with this one already), fbx (fb exchange),

edit: the problem with the above is that it will not be clear on fb what these apps do, but it will be clear on drupal.org what they do (which should be your main audience anyway). You could consider naming your fb app more aptly I guess.

Facebook

I have had this same issue as I had a bunch of FB and Twitter domains, and while Twitter has a much much MUCH more relaxed attitude, FB gets as nasty as it possibly can.
They even had www.facebooksucks.com removed while for example even PayPal had to surrender and allow www.paypalsucks.com to stay online. I think this is because most of us are scared by Facebook as it is more 'pervasive' than PayPal, meaning pretty much everybody ueses it on a daily basis and we are afraid we will not be able to connect with friends, colleagues etc
However, I would try and at least talk to a lawyer and have a read here http://www.paypalsucks.com/domain-name-disputes.shtml as you may have a good case against them. (hey if you win a few million $$$ in court you will be more than welcome to tip me..;o)))

Again, read that paypalsucks.com page before making any decision

Name for FFD

Probably would be easy to employ some functions under module saving some code.. I'd call it: FaceBlue

drupalface would be my vote

Drupalface

Drupalface is nice

Second that emotion

I like "Drupalface".

Also, it should really only be the domain they're concerned with, not the module name. I think.

What about "dface" or

What about "dface" or "druface"? Then there's "DFB" or just "Drupal FB".

FaceDrup

My Likey "FaceDrup" or "FaceDrupe"
ThoughtS?

drupal backend

drupal as facebook backend could be called:

  • fb.ui and fb.api
  • fbridge
  • fbackend

You don't need to change the

You don't need to change the name of the module.

They are only complaining about the domain: drupalforfacebook.org...

Agreed

Using Facebook in the name of your module is probably not the problem. However I fail to see why Facebook is on your case; your product is specifically designed to work with Facebook -- what else is it going to be called? You're not claiming to be Facebook. And no one is going to confuse "Facebook" with "Drupal for Facebook".

Regarding the name change: you might want to specify it's a Facebook App module. Maybe that will appease them.

Nice work, btw.

Dracebook or Drace Book

What do you think of Dracebook?

drupal4fb?

d4fb? how bout we do a facebook theme and get this off garland? ;)

Facebook inspired theme

I have started work on a facebook inspired theme for Drupal, based on Zen Theme Starterkit.

It is hosted at http://github.com/esben/zenfb

but it is really just started, and I haven't even started getting it to work for other setups than the most basic I use myself.
But if anybody can use it, or even better, improve it, please feel free, and don't forget to contribute back to me :-)

An example of this work-in-progress can be seen at http://ridepony.dk

I'm using garland for this

I'm using garland for this site because I want it to look like Drupal. Is that a bad idea?
